Support Facilities

Cardiac Clinical Trials Office
This is a unique facility which coordinates and manages the multiple clinical research projects undertaken by the Division and assists in the recruitment of patients for clinical trials. The office is staffed by technicians, a research coordinator, nurses, and secretarial support personnel. Fellows interact with the staff as required by their involvement in individual clinical projects.

Cardiology Library
A library of Cardiology-related textbooks, subscriptions and extensive holdings of all major Cardiology journals is located in the Fellows Room at both sites. Furthermore fellows have online access to Ovid and Medline databases with download capability of articles and figures.

Heart Station
The Facility is responsible for taking and processing of more than 90,000 ECG's each year on in/out patients at both sites. Cardiologists are assigned per month on a rotating basis to interpret ECG's. Additionally, the Heart Station Staff are responsible for exercise stress test support, holter monitor application and scanning, transtelephonic monitoring and signal averaged ECG acquisition.

Computer Support
Clinical research data for fellows and faculty is handled by the Division's computer technical staff that manages a PC-based divisional database and a Macintosh computer network. Multiple computers are in place in the Fellows room for data and graphic analysis, slide production, word processing, and spreadsheet/database development. A CD-based data system allows rapid literature searches of the National Library of Medicine. Furthermore through the implementation of an enterprise wide imaging network (HeartlabÔ) echocardiograms, nuclear cardiology images and cardiac catheterization images are available throughout the hospital network. Images from this network can easily be transferred into presentations for conferences and patient education
