Evaluation
The General Internal Medicine Residency Program has a well-established committee structure which encourages residents and faculty to be actively involved in the development and evaluation of the residency's educational programs. Committees meet once a month and include: curriculum and evaluation, behavioral and social science, research, and medical primary care unit. Recommendations are presented to the program faculty and residents at the quarterly program meeting. Residents are encouraged to serve on committees of their choice.
Each year, the program's residents and faculty meet off campus for a one-day retreat to discuss all aspects of the training program. Innovation, problem-solving and curricular development are highlighted. The retreat recommendations provide direction for the committee work of the following year.
Program Evaluation
Each resident formally evaluates all aspects of the primary care program throughout the year. These evaluations are done under the auspices of the curriculum and evaluation committee chaired by the program evaluator. After review by the committee, recommendations are forwarded to the program director and/or the appropriate committees for action.
Resident Evaluation
Residents are formally evaluated by faculty and other residents each month and ongoing feedback is encouraged and expected. At least twice a year, residents meet with the program director to discuss and review these written evaluations and exchange feedback. Particular effort is made to give constructive criticism which will direct the resident's educational goals.
